Cookie Policy

Last updated: March 04, 2026

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, which cookies penguen.io uses, why we use them, and how you can control them.

This policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service.

If you have questions, contact us at support@penguen.io.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, tablet, or phone) when you visit a website or use a web application. They are widely used to make websites work, to remember your preferences, and to provide information to the site owner about how users interact with the site.

Similar technologies include:

  • Local storage: data stored in your browser that persists beyond a session
  • Session storage: data stored only for the duration of a browser session
  • Pixel tags / web beacons: small invisible images that track whether a page or email has been opened
  • Device fingerprinting: a technique that identifies a device based on its technical characteristics

Where this policy refers to "cookies", it includes all of these similar technologies unless otherwise stated.

2. Who Sets Cookies on penguen.io?

Cookies on penguen.io are set by:

  • Us (penguen.io) — "first-party cookies"
  • Third-party service providers we use, specifically Google LLC — "third-party cookies"

Third-party cookies are governed by those third parties' own privacy and cookie policies. We do not control what those parties do with information collected through their cookies.

3. Cookies We Use

Category 1 — Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for the App to function. Without them, core features such as logging in and accessing your account would not work. They do not track you for advertising purposes.

Consent required: No — these cookies are set automatically as they are technically necessary.

Examples of what these cookies do:

  • Maintain your login session so you do not need to sign in on every page
  • Remember your cookie consent preferences
  • Protect against cross-site request forgery (CSRF)

Set by: penguen.io (first party)

Typical duration: Session (deleted when you close your browser) or up to 1 year for preference cookies

Category 2 — Analytics Cookies (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics to understand how users interact with the App — for example, which pages are most visited, how long users spend on the App, and where users come from. This helps us improve the App.

Google Analytics assigns a unique identifier to your browser or device and collects usage data that is sent to Google's servers, which may be located in the United States.

Consent required: Yes — these cookies are only set after you accept analytics cookies via our consent banner.

Common Google Analytics cookies:

Cookie Purpose Duration
_ga Distinguishes unique users by assigning a randomly generated number as a client identifier 2 years
_ga_[ID] Stores and counts page views for the specific Google Analytics 4 property 2 years
_gid Distinguishes users; stores a unique session identifier 24 hours
_gat / _gat_[ID] Throttles the request rate to Google Analytics 1 minute

Set by: Google LLC (third party)

Category 3 — Advertising and Remarketing Cookies (Google Analytics Advertising Features)

We use Google Analytics advertising features, which enable us to:

  • Serve you relevant advertisements on other websites and platforms after you have visited penguen.io (remarketing / retargeting)
  • Measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns
  • Build audiences based on your usage behaviour and demographics
  • Enable demographic and interest reporting within Google Analytics

These features use cookies and device identifiers set by Google to track your browsing activity across websites and apps over time. If you are signed into a Google account with ad personalisation enabled, Google may also use Google Signals to link your activity across devices.

This category of cookies involves sharing information about your use of penguen.io — including identifiers and behavioural data — with Google for advertising purposes. If you are a California resident, this may constitute "sharing" of personal information under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA / CPRA), and you have the right to opt out.

Consent required: Yes — these cookies are only set after you accept advertising cookies via our consent banner.

4. How to Manage Your Cookie Preferences

A. Our cookie consent banner

When you first visit penguen.io, you will be shown a cookie consent banner. You can choose to accept all cookies, accept only strictly necessary cookies, or customise your preferences by category.

You can change your preferences at any time by clicking "Cookie Settings" in the website footer.

B. Browser settings

Most browsers allow you to view, manage, block, and delete cookies through their settings. Instructions for common browsers:

Please note that blocking all cookies will affect the functionality of many websites, including penguen.io. Strictly necessary cookies cannot be disabled through our consent banner, but can be blocked in your browser settings — however, doing so will prevent you from logging in and using the App.

C. Google-specific opt-out tools

D. California residents — opt out of sharing

If you are a California resident and wish to opt out of the sharing of your personal information through advertising cookies (as described in Category 3), you may do so by:

  • Declining advertising cookies in our consent banner; or
  • Emailing us at support@penguen.io with the subject line "California Opt-Out"

5. Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. The App does not currently respond to DNT signals, as there is no universally accepted standard for how they should be interpreted. You can manage your preferences through the methods described in Section 4.

6. Cookies and Children

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies to profile users who we know to be under 13. If you are under 13, please do not accept advertising cookies. Parents and guardians are encouraged to review and manage cookie settings on devices used by children.

7. Changes to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies we use or for legal, technical, or operational reasons. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you via a notice on the App or by email.
